On June 6, 2026, Keep Vietnam Clean, in collaboration with VietPlastic Global and local authorities, organized an environmental cleanup activity at Phuc Tan Forest Park, Hong Ha Ward, Hanoi. The program was part of the “Clean-up & Green-up Our Cities” initiative, aiming to contribute to the preservation of clean, green and beautiful public spaces while raising community awareness about environmental responsibility.
The result: 573 kg of material collected by 61 volunteers over two hours.

Every green space deserves collective protection
Phuc Tan Forest Park is one of the key public spaces for residents living along the Red River area. Over the years, the park has become a familiar destination for recreation, exercise and community activities among local residents.
However, like many public spaces in urban areas, Phuc Tan Forest Park continues to face pressure from waste generated through daily use. This highlights that maintaining and protecting green spaces is not solely the responsibility of management authorities, but also requires active participation from communities, businesses and social organizations.
That distinction matters. The waste here does not come from large-scale illegal dumping; it accumulates gradually out of everyday use — which means it comes back within weeks if nobody maintains the space. A cleanup is therefore not an endpoint but one link in a longer chain of care.
With the goal of improving the environmental landscape and spreading a shared sense of responsibility for protecting living spaces, Keep Vietnam Clean and VietPlastic Global partnered with local authorities to organize the cleanup with the enthusiastic participation of volunteers.
More than half a ton collected at Phuc Tan Forest Park
The activity brought together representatives from Keep Vietnam Clean, VietPlastic Global, local authorities, and 61 volunteers from various community groups.
Before the cleanup began, Ms. Bui Ngoc Diep, Director of Keep Vietnam Clean, provided safety instructions, implementation guidelines and task assignments for the volunteer groups. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, CEO of VietPlastic Global, and Mr. Dao Xuan Thuong, Head of Residential Group No. 1, Phuc Tan Area, Hong Ha Ward, shared reflections on the importance of environmental protection and the role of collaboration among businesses, communities and local residents in creating cleaner and greener living environments.
Over two hours, teams worked together to clean pathways, green areas and locations where waste had accumulated within Phuc Tan Forest Park. Results from the cleanup included:

- 312 kg of waste
- 261 kg of weeds and plant biomass
Many areas within Phuc Tan Forest Park saw significant improvements following the activity, contributing to a cleaner and more welcoming environment for residents and community groups who regularly use the space.
Breaking down the 573 kg collected at Phuc Tan Forest Park
The headline total is easy to misread, because fewer than 55% of those kilograms were actually waste. Specifically: 312 kg of waste (54.5%), and 261 kg — 45.5% — of weeds and plant biomass.
The split matters because the two materials belong on completely different paths. Waste needs sorting, collection and processing through the municipal system. Weeds and plant biomass are not waste at all — they are organic material that can be composted and returned to feed the very trees growing in Phuc Tan Forest Park. Sending all 261 kg to landfill would mean paying to transport it, generating additional methane, and throwing away a nutrient source that was already on site.
Divided evenly, each volunteer collected roughly 5.1 kg of waste in a little over two hours. That is a substantial figure for a public space in regular use, and it confirms that the waste pressure on Phuc Tan Forest Park is real rather than symbolic.
Seven weeks later, on July 24, 2026, KVC returned with Projects Abroad For Vietnam and collected 99.5 kg with 28 volunteers — about 3.6 kg per person. The two events differed in scale, so the comparison is not exact, but a drop of roughly 30% in waste per volunteer points to something KVC consistently argues: regular maintenance beats a single large campaign followed by nothing.
